It’s a year to live boldly in prayer.
We’ll see how God works through ‘em.

The Polish composer Witold Lutoslawski refused to synchronize the performers of his String Quartet (1964) as a part of his commentary on the regimentation of life under Communism. In this piece, decisions by the performers about how the four independent written parts will come together yield slightly different textures for each new performance, but these are always musical and coherent - suggesting society could be similarly organized without a “master sychronizer” like the state. Lutoslawski was inspired to compose such “limited aleatory music” after attending a Cage performance in 1960.
